355 roller serpintine belt change?
I have an 87 monte carlo with a 355 roller. How do I change the serpintine belt? do I have to pull off the alternator belt? Where do I adjust the tightness of the pullies? What tools will I need? HELP!!!!!!!!355 roller serpintine belt change? If you have a spring tensioner, then there should be some way to lever the tensioner pulley against the spring to relieve tension and change the belt. If not, then there's a belt adjustment on one of the driven accessories. Do you normally have to adjust the belt, or is it automatic? If it's automatic, then you have a spring-loaded tensioner pulley.creating file drawing a circle
How to increasing power generated by alternator?
i own a 94 lincoln continental and i don't think the chargeing system is working to good i know when a cars started and you disconnect the battery the cars sopped to stay running but mine doesn't. got a new battery like 2 weeks old. is there any way to clean the alternator with out replaceing it with a new one because i know it runs the car with the battery and don't want to change it.How to increasing power generated by alternator?Hi, follow these instructions to the letter. If you are not too sure, take it to a garage.
1/ Check the voltage across your battery with the ignition off. Write down this reading.
2/ Check voltage with the engine running. Write this down.
3/ Check voltage with engine running just past tickover. (Get a friend to apply some gas). Write this down.
E mail me the results, I will tell you whats up.
DO NOT START TO STRIP THE CHARGING CIRCUIT. There is nothing you can do.
If anyone trys to tell you what is up without these basic measurements, they are wrong.
Speak soon.
Just for your info, doing this will tell you the battery 'no' load voltage, and the voltage that is running through the circuit at both idle and when driving. From this, you can tell if the system is charging.Once you have confirmed if it is or not, then it is time for a diagnosis.
(Check the terminal clamps are tight and clean before doing this)
As bobweb says DO NOT DISCONNECT THE BATTERY WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING!!!!How to increasing power generated by alternator?Cleaning the alternator won't help you. Likely the brushes are worn out, and with a Lincoln, I suspect it requires a good charging system for all the electrical extras on the car. Alternators are not expensive when comparing it to your time and trouble of constantly killing the battery. Replacement shouldn't be that hard on that year of vehicle. How to increasing power generated by alternator?Never disconnect the battery while the engines running. There has never been any proper repair or test procedure that so instructed an auto technician. Don't take my word for it, just find it written down in any legitimate auto repair manual rather than listening to some old wive's tale about auto charging systems.
The charging voltage should read about 14 to 15.5 Volts DC depending on the battery temperature and state of charge. Use a digital Volt Ohm Meter (VOM) available from Sears ($30) and connect the test leads across the battery terminals with the engine idling and big power accessories like lights and A/C fans etc turned off.How to increasing power generated by alternator?change itHow to increasing power generated by alternator?i am a mechanic and all you can really do is if the battery cables are corroded or loose, then you clean or tighten them ..... if it still doesn't change anything, then you need to replace your alternator

How do you change the serpentine belt on a 97 kia sephia?
I threw the alternator belt on my 97 sephia and can't figure out how to loosen the other belt so that i can remove it and install the one that broke.
Also, is it possible that throwing this belt could possible throw the timing off?How do you change the serpentine belt on a 97 kia sephia?Serpentine systems use a %26quot;Tensioner%26quot; that pushes against the belt to tighten it. In the center of the tensioner is a bolt- Put a socket on it and turn it counter clock wise. This will take the tension off the serpentine belt and allow you to take it off. It is reapplied just the opposite.
Timing has nothing to do with this belt. The timing is controlled by the timing belt which connects the crank to the cam(s).

How to change thermostat on dodge dakota?
I HAVE A 94 DODGE DAKOTA WITH A 318 MOTOR. HOW DO I CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT ON IT? DO I HAVE TO MOVE THE AIR CONDITIONING PUMP AND THE ALTERNATOR TO GET TO IT? THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT.How to change thermostat on dodge dakota?yes you do to get to it and do it right,if not you wont be able to clean the mating surface off good enough on it,that's the easiest way to get to them, unless you can get to it just by moving the alternator out of the way,and its still a tight fit to get it back in right, they could have made it easier to get to on that one,i own a 93 and its no fun working on it,good luck. How to change thermostat on dodge dakota?man, that's a hard one right there ,try and drill in to it just a little and see if you can get a screw driver drove in to it and see if that will budge it out,i did that once and had to remove the brackets and all on it,and drill it out, thankfully its brass an will come out once it weakens some.

How do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?
For example how do i adjust the alternator and power steering pump on the engine to place a drive belt on it?How do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?i have my mechanic do that and i pay him with the money get from selling thingsHow do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?It a simple job. All the pulleys are on swivel or pivot bolts. You loosen them and your belts will gain enough slack to take them off. Go to www.twinturbo.net or www.300zxclub. com...These sites are dedicated z folks. They have tons of forums and faq sections. They even a illustrations on how to do a lot of jobs. I have a 91 TT, and I usually go there to get my answers or tech help. How do i change the drive belts on a nissan 300zx?You'll need a socket wrench with some sockets. American cars use inch system, Euros use metrics. Unsure on Japanese. Anyhow, on the pump, start loosening the mounting bolts until you hit one where you can move the pump. Move it in, and there'll be a lot less tension on the belt.
It's pretty easy, i would save the pain in the azz stuff for the mechanics, this one is do-able.

How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?
My car cut off on me and isn't starting, i try to crank it and it sounds like its out of gas....but it has a half tank of gas in it, i was told it is probably the fuel filter....the car has a new battery, and alternator is good,How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?I did it on my Maxima 92, and it was easy.. just look up for the filter. It's usually behind the motor, near the windshield. Once you know where it is, disconect the hose from both sides of the filter with a screwdriver and place the new one. tight them well, but not overtightened.
-(The filter has an out and an intake flow, make sure you don't reverse those when placing the new one).
-(The hose will have a certain gasoline pressure if your car uses a gas pump, so be careful with your eyes).
-(When you have the old one out, blow through it from the same way gasoline flows and see if it's blocked. Blow the new one too so you can see the difference. If the old one was kind of blocked or dirty, but it wasn't the problem of your car, at least you replaced a not so good filter).
Nobody warranties that's gonna be problem.
But if you wanna go ahead and do it I wish you good luck. How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?Q- follow the fuel lines from the tank it will take you to the filter, but, do you have a mechanical pump or an electric pump? if you have an electric one have some one get in and turn the key into the run position, the spot the key goes back to after you start the car. open the fuel tank, like your putting gas in, and listen for a low volume whine. if that is present then find the filter, if it's not present then replace the fuel pump. How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?type into searchbox

How do I change the belts on a 2002 Toyota Sienna V6?
I was expecting to find a single serpentine belt with an automatic tensioner pulley. I have changed serpentine belts on many models with no problem. But this Sienna has two belts, not one. One belt drives the power steering pump. The second belt drives the alternator and A/C. I don't see a tensioner pulley on either belt. Do these belts work like old-fashioned V-belts belts where you tension them by loosening something (like the alternator) and then using a pry bar to tighten the belt? I can barely see the power steering pump so it looks pretty tight, I welcome advice from anybody who knows this model. Thanks. How do I change the belts on a 2002 Toyota Sienna V6?loosen the 14mm bolt on top of alternator. loosen 12mm bolt below alternator sitting sideways. adjust belt tension with 10mm bolt running through previous 12mm.
loosen 12mm bolt on top of power steering pump. underneath vehicle loosen a 12mm bolt below p/s pump pull on belt to relieve tension, and pry carefully to increase tension.
a bit of advice when reinstalling belts, the belt tension has to be just so, too tight and you will wreck the bearings in both pump and alt., too loose and the belts will squeal they have to be just right.

If so, then does the starter motor spin?
If so, does it engage the flywheel and spin it at a normal rate of speed?

How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1998 Honda Accord?
It's an LX 4cyl. Its actually had 2 belts next to each other that I'm looking to replace. I do not see a tensioner so do I just remove the Alternator pulley to replace or what? How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1998 Honda Accord?I think on this car the Alternator tensions one of the belts and the Power steering pump tensions the other one. You do not remove the pulleys, you need to loosen(do not remove) like 2 or 3 bolts on the ps pump and then the pump should slide and the belt should come off. Same story with the alt...but im sure that only has two bolts....one of them is under the alt and you can reach it easier from underneath. Good luck! How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1998 Honda Accord? That engine doesn't have tensioners instead it has brackets that are slotted. All you need to do is loosen (dont remove) the bolts. Probably a 12mm and move the alternator and or power steering pump. This will take the tension off the belt so you can remove it.How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1998 Honda Accord?the one on the left

How do I stop alternator noise coming through car radio?
I recently had to buy a new radio for my car because the old one broke. However since I put it in, whenever I've tried to use the radio function (as opposed to the CD function) I get the noise of the alternator kicking back through the radio. This didn't happen with the old one, but apparently it's because the newer radios tend to be more sensitive. Anyway, the guy at the shop said the alternator could be working too hard, now I knew my battery was going so I changed it, and had an alternator test and now that's all good. I've also been told it could be bad earth cables, which I'm yet to test and clean, but while I'm on the subject could it really be those?
Leaving aside the earths, what could this problem be? If it's a simple case of buying some sort of suppressor then where can I get one from and how and where do I fit it?

How do I change the spark plugs on a 1990 Buick Century w/ a 3.3 six liter engine?

How do i change the ac belt of a dodge neon 2000 is the same that goes to the power steering and alternator?
The automatic belt tensioner maintains proper tension on the power steering/air conditioning belt. After belt is installed, inspect belt length indicator marks. The indicator mark should be within the minimum belt length and maximum belt length marks. On a new belt, the indicator mark should align approximately with the nominal belt length mark. How do i change the ac belt of a dodge neon 2000 is the same that goes to the power steering and alternator?AS Tracy, but leave 1/2 inch play
Does an alternator have a rectifier in it?
does an alternator have a rectifier in it? how can i change its output voltage into a pure sine @ 60hrz? i am working on a project and would like to have my alternator give me a constant ac voltage of 14 with a 60 hrz frequency. at speeds between 2000 to 5000 rpms. also @ 14volts does the current produced from the alternator solely depend on the load?
Does an alternator have a rectifier in it?It has a number of rectifiers. An alternator outputs typically three phase AC, and that is rectified by the rectifiers to produce DC to charge the battery.
To get 60 Hz, you will have to spin the alternator at exactly the correct speed. What that is I don't know, it will vary from model to model. Plus remove the diodes. But you will have 3 phases power, which you will have to convert to single phase, a difficult project. But perhaps you can find a single phase alternator??
Current will depend on the load as it does on any voltage source, however, you can adjust the output voltage by adjusting the current into the field winding.
Your best bet is to use the auto voltage regulator, leave the diodes in place, and let the alternator charge a battery. Use an inverter from the battery to generate AC at 60 Hz
.Does an alternator have a rectifier in it?This is just an extension on the last answer. Yes, an alternator has 3 phases before the rectifier. It will be next to impossible to find a single phase alternator. The only way to have a constant AC frequency over the full range of RPMs is to use the rectified (ie. DC) voltage at the output and then invert it to AC. DC to AC inverters are pretty involved and somewhat complicated to build, but thankfully they are easy to find and buy. The best thing to do would be to buy a basic 12V to 110V AC inverter. The 110V AC outputs are not a perfect sine wave, but it is close enough. Feed the 110V into a simple 8:1 transformer and then you will have ~14V AC @ 60hz. When you go to buy your transformer, a 110V - 12V would probably be good enough although it isn't quite 8:1.
Good luck!Does an alternator have a rectifier in it?I believe you need a generator. I may get corrected, but I believe the alternator is a device that makes DC and the generator is a device that makes AC.
In older vehicles they use to have generators in them, and then they ran them through a regulator or rectifier to produce the DC needed to charge the battery.
So to answer the question, Yes a alternator does have a rectifier in itDoes an alternator have a rectifier in it?You have sufficient information scattered amongst the various respondents to satisfactorily answer your question.

The word 'generator' is a generic name for a machine, rotary in this case, which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
So, a generator provides an electric current. Without further information that's all we can say about it.
There are two types of generator.
One of them is called a dynamo and produces d.c.
The other is called an alternator and produces a.c.
Does an alternator have a rectifier in it?To add a little more to the two good answers that you have, the frequency of the voltage generated by an alternator is given by frequency(Hz) = RPM X p / 120 where p is the number of poles. The number of poles is an even number and is most likely 2, 4 or 6. For 60 Hz, the speed could be 3600, 1800, 1200 or less. It can not be more than 3600.

How to change a belt on a 1996 plymouth breeze?
We are trying to change a serpentine belt on a 1996 plymouth breeze. There is a cover in the way and we aren't sure how to get that off. It is the one on the top by the alternator. How to change a belt on a 1996 plymouth breeze? Those type of covers usually snap into position and could have a bolt or screw holding them on, plus if bolt or screw is used their positioned about centre so it holds the cover more firmly, to keep them from rattling and more balanced etc.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you could get to a parts outlet then you could try calling around and seeing who offers a free print out and belts installation info and process for that vehicle.asian hair rss feed viewer widget

How much does it cost to replace an Alternator?
I drive an '87 Thunderbird and recently, in this change to cold weather, it's been extremely difficult to get it to start. However, the battery is less than 3 weeks old. Could the alternator be the issue? What's the price range for a new one, and is it possible to have it repaied/replaced with a used one?How much does it cost to replace an Alternator?Could be the alternator-The car though uses the battery to start up and the alternator powers it while its cranked-If the alt goes bad then the battery has to run everything and will die faster-You can look up an alternator on any local auto parts website, and with the age of your car it should be pretty simple to switch it out.How much does it cost to replace an Alternator?I'd use common sense and call a few shops and get some quotes. I doubt it's the alternator if it %26quot;starts hard%26quot;. I'd get the vehicle to a reputable repair facility and have a professional have a look. Otherwise you will just be wasting time and money swapping parts out trying to fix it yourself. How much does it cost to replace an Alternator?local auto parts store like autozone advanced will check it for free a new one i think is 100-150
How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?
I have a car that we changed the water pump and alternator/air conditioning belt on. Now when I crank it it goes thump thump thump like its going to stop running at first. If I give it gas it sounds fine except the belt starts squeaking. After a few seconds it acts fine. It only does this when its first cranked and if its been itting for more than about 10 minutes since it was last cranked. When the water pump was changed it was very hard to get to. We had to take off the air filter, timing belt, Airconditoner belt. Im really sure the timing is right cause it drives really good. I was just wondering what could be causing this and how to fix it. Also how do I get the belt to quit squeaking? Thanks for your answers. How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?other than adjusting the belt ,which i would start there, you can also use a bar of soap and rub it on the belt for temporary relief of noise. How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?Tighten the belt

With your motor running spray alll the belts you can see.
Wear some protective eye wear when you do this.
If it is just the belt (being new) the squeaking should stop.

What causes the bolt for the electrical line on the alternator to catch on fire?
ok i installed a new alternator on march 13th on my 1991 honda civic we just went on a road trip and when i got back i had to change my oxygen sensor due to it failing i change that and start my car up and now on the top of my alternator the bolted electrical line not the plug caught on fire and just immediately starts to glow when the engine is running what could be causing this? how do i fix it?What causes the bolt for the electrical line on the alternator to catch on fire?you've got too much current running through that cable. Sounds like something wasn't grounded properly. What causes the bolt for the electrical line on the alternator to catch on fire?It could be that the bolt is touching a live wire .What causes the bolt for the electrical line on the alternator to catch on fire? When anything electrical catches on fire, it's usually because of a short, or too much current on the wire. Electrical shorts can happen because of many reasons, the most common being damage to the wire's insulation, which allows anything metal to take some of the current from the hot wire.
I'd check the wire, and look for areas that might be shorting out to anything metal, and I'd also check other sections of the alternator for any damage, burn spots, or melted metal/plastic.
Know that if a wire catches on fire, or shorts out, you're probably going to want to replace at least the section that had the problem, otherwise it could easily happen again, since the insulation would be heavily damaged in that area.
Also check your grounding system.

Car battery replaced, but quetsion about alternator?
Hello, I had a car (1999 Camaro) jumped and brought to Menikie. They tested the battery and said it was dead. They replaced the battery and and the car worked.
They checked the battery with some unknown device to me and they said that the stick was moving around back and forth.
they told me this means that the alternator needs to be changed.
-
are they taking me for a ride or are they right. I have a voltmeter on the dash in my car and if that was the same test they used, my stick on the voltmeter does go back and forth a bit, but never in the red zone.
they did say that the cra had 100,000 miles and the alternator needed to go.
so what's the story. How long until drive unitl/or if I have a problem?Car battery replaced, but quetsion about alternator? My best guess from what you said is that one or more of the diodes in your Alternator is blown. Alternators produce alternating current (back and forth), whereas cars use direct current (one direction). Think of alternating current like positive and negative energy. The job of the diodes is to let through the positive energy, but block the negative energy.
You could get it checked for free at Autozone or the like, but from what I've heard, they often don't check for this. To check for this specific thing, all that's needed is an AC (alternating current) Volt-Meter, which is different than the one in your car.
I suggest you ask your friends and neighbors if they know a good local independent mechanic shop, and have them check for that specifically. Shouldn't cost much, and they may waive the testing fee if you have them repair it.Car battery replaced, but quetsion about alternator?Go to Auto Zone, and get another FREE test. This will verify. You probably DO need a new alternator and VOLTAGE REGULATOR. Many times, the battery goes bad from an internal short in the alternator. They sometimes need to be replaced together, or so my local alternator shop tells me.Car battery replaced, but quetsion about alternator? If you have put in a new battery, and the voltage is rising and falling then the alternator is at fault. It needs to be about 14.5 Volts.Car battery replaced, but quetsion about alternator?if the battery keeps going dead then it,s probably the alternator not charging the battery.

How to increase the alternator's voltage output?
I need to use an alternator to produce 120 volts?but all a found are only 12 to 14 volts and some with external regulator that can be adjusted to 20 volts?is there any way that I can increase the voltage of the alternator to 120V?? I read that alternator can produce 120 volts by changing things in the regulator or using an external device to do so.How to increase the alternator's voltage output? The regulator normally provides a pulsed DC current to control the output voltage. Many sources claim that setting the field to 12V allows it to go to 120V, for sufficient engine speed. Voltage regulation will be terrible, requiring controlling the engine speed unless you make a feedback circuit. However, most auto alternators are 3 phase, and the frequency will be way high. The guys in this link say something like 300 Hz. Using the 3 phase is a problem, as most small devices are 1 phase. What you could do is rectify the 3 phase (the original diodes are probably not rated high enough voltage) and use devices like universal motors (most light power tools) and incandescent light bulbs, which don't care about frequency. You could also chop the rectified DC with transistors to make 1 phase, but it likely wouldn't be a very good sine wave, and this is basically the back half of an inverter.
Getting an inverter to run off 12V DC or a generator for 120V 1 phase 60 hz. is probably your best bet.
http://www.mikeholt.com/forum/Forum1/HTMHow to increase the alternator's voltage output? An alternator is a AC generator that has a rectifier to change the AC to DC. It also usually has a controller that varies the field current in order to regulate the output voltage. This is usually a solid state comparator that senses the 12v DC output and corrects the field current appropriately.
The alternator is usually 3-phase. This 3-phase voltage could be applied to a transformer to provide the required step-up ratio. However, there may be some problems here. The usual car alternator operates at high, variable RPM which means the frequency of the alternator output would vary depending on the required speed. This changes the requirements for the transformer.
However, if you can set your motor speed to a known RPM, it might be possible. The final RPM for your alternator (not the engine - you may need to change the pulley ratios) would be 3600. This should give a frequency of 60 Hz.
The regulator is another problem. If you do not want to charge a 12v battery, you may need to rectify some of the AC output and use this (via a voltage dropping circuit to the regulator) to control the output voltage. How to increase the alternator's voltage output?10:1 step up transformer before the rectifier?ittwit Bed sheets

How to replace the alternator on a BMW X5?
I have a 2003 BMW X5 and the alternator seems to be the problem. I already changed the battery twice (thinking it was a battery problem), but yesterday, the battery started draining again. Others had told me that it could be the alternator. I've priced the alternators and I would rather do the work myself, but I don't know how difficult this task might be. Any thoughts? How to replace the alternator on a BMW X5?why don't you take it to your bmw service center so they can hook it up to the computer and check where the problem is, and it up to you if you want them to fix the problem or take it somewhere else, atleast you will check out all options before doing anything.

Should i buy this car?
hello all.
i'm a first time driver and i saw this car on craigslist.
ofcourse im not dumb and i will go see it with a mechanic before thinking of buying it.
but i was wondering if it was a ''good'' deal.
here's the specs.
%26quot;Hey guys... This is a Black 1991 Nissan Sentra. It's a 4 cylinder engine, with an automatic transmission. There's a lot of great stuff about this car. Here's the list of positives and negatives: (remember this car is a 91, there's gonna be some negatives too!)
PLEASE CHECK THE PICTURES BELOW!!
Positives:
-Only 107k miles on the car. NO rebuilt engine or trans.
-Transmission shifts smooth every time, no jerky gear changes.
-Brand new alternator (replaced it in June), and a battery that's about a year old.
-Brand new stereo (with AUX input for MP3 players, ipods, etc) and 4 brand new speakers put in about a year ago.
-New front brakes put in about 5 months ago.
-Has a sunroof installed and it's still completely functional and works 100%
-Gets about 30-35mpg, higher if you go on the highway (I've gotten over 40mpg when doing long highway-only trips)
-It used to be a sun-faded red color, but it's painted black now (check the pics out)
-New distributor cap, new spark plug cables, and new spark plugs installed about two months ago.
-Fully functional spare tire included, along with the jack and lug wrench
-Original floor mats included, in great condition
-Two front tires under warranty from Sam's Club (60,000 mile warranty, I've put about 2,000 on them since I bought it)
And now onto the negatives:
-There is a leak in the head gasket.
-The driver side locking mechanism will lock, but it won't unlock. You've gotta use the passenger side lock. Someone tried to pick my lock and it broke.
-Sometimes the car needs to be in neutral to start (the parking gear solenoid doesn't always catch for whatever reason, but it starts in neutral 100% of the time with absolutely no hesitation).
To tell you the truth, fixing the lock is fairly simple, it's putting a rod back on the locking lever, but I didn't want to take apart the whole door for that. Same with the starting problem. Read on to find out how you can fix it!
Now, I know you're probably about to hit the back button... But let me tell you something else. This car comes with the Factory Service Manual (yes, I bought that stupid thing!), and it tells you how to fix almost EVERY single thing on the car, and tells you exactly what tools you'll need, down to the sizes of wrenches. It tells you how to take apart the engine to fix the head gasket, too, if you were wondering.
Now, this isn't the type of project I'd recommend to someone who's never done any car work before, but this book goes step by step and shows you the exploded view of each component, and it's pretty easy to follow if you're even mildly mechanically inclined. I would fix this myself, but I just don't have the time. Going to school full time and working full time really lowers the amount of free time you've got!
Be swift if you'd like this car, so you can fix it up and get it back on the road where it belongs :)
What I'm asking is 800, or your best offer. This car has got a LOT of life left in it, once you stop up that head gasket problem. You could even take it to a mechanic to fix it up if you didn't feel like doing the work yourself, but I'll still throw the book in for you, because it really is a great resource. The pictures are down below, and I've tried to get every angle possible that I thought was important. Let me know if you want more pics and I can take them ASAP.%26quot;
i emailed him and he said he's willin to negotiate price with me.
he said to fix everything in the car would be about $700-800$
so hes willing to be flexible with the price.
so please any opinions would be nice. thank you.Should i buy this car? It's a high mileage 17 year old vehicle. The fact that the engine and transmission have never been rebuilt is a negative, NOT a positive. It already has engine problems in that it has a blown head gasket. If it were all that easy to fix, the owner would fix it and sell it for more, wouldn't he?
Just the head gasket alone, if everything were done right, would be more than the $700 to $800 he's estimating.
I'd pass.Should i buy this car?Okay, whoa! Way too long!Should i buy this car?ehhh i wouldnt only cuz theres a lot of miles on itShould i buy this car?No. A new head gasket will cost more than the car.Should i buy this car?The miles are not bad for a Japanese car of that year. The main concern I would have with the car is the leaking headgasket. The headgasket will need to be replaced sooner or later, probably sooner. If you have a place and ability to fix the gasket and want to work on it, offer maybe $600. If you have to have a shop repair the headgasket you need to add about $800-$1000 to the cost of buying the car for how much the car will cost. It looks like you really want the car, just know that for the true value you may be able to get something newer at the same or less price.Should i buy this car?i don't think it is worth it. why don't you call around and ask how much a head gasket cost. for my dodge cara van it would have been around 700.00 to fix that. and it wasnt worth it because i paid 700.00 for the van. so no i would not buy it i find that it will take time to find a good car. save up what you already have and keep adding to it to get a newer car. that don't have anything wrong with it.

How much can I sell my car for that does not start?
I have a 1996 Honda Civic Dx Hatchba ck Midori Green! Its a rare car, honda only made it that color, for that model and that year. Everywhere I go people are always admiring the car and color and asking to buy. I wanted to sell it to get something newer and larger, but then it stopped working. The alternator went and ever since I got it changed the car would not start. I just want it off my hands. The body is in good condition, NO RUST watsoever, lovely car, 156K, comes with 5 rims, circuit city radio, just changed rotors, brakes, alternator and had the front axle done. How much do you think I can get for this car? I'm asking 2,000 for it, is that not a possibility? The blue book value is 3,080. I'm sure theres people who would fix this car up and race it (those hatchback honda lovers) or simply strip for parts for the same car (since its hard to find in that color).
Any suggestions would be helpful! Thank You!How much can I sell my car for that does not start?unless your selling it for parts
it needs to start and run.
otherwise your limiting your buyers. How much can I sell my car for that does not start?you may wish to fix this car before you sell it . 2k sounds like a decent price but people dont want to gamble with a car purchase,if they could hear it run and possibly drive it they are more likely to buy it.try to get it fixed and add that to the selling price.

Is this amp good Autotek MM 4000.1D for Running 2 15" BTL's?
I want to know if Autotek really gives out the power it states at 1 ohm and i have a E39 with a stock battery which i will be getting changed and my alternator is 120 amp . How much will the alternator cost because i dont think it is good to run 4000RMS at a 120amp Alternator , is it if i have a good battery ?
I want good lows and highs and want to compete in SPL Comps in future so how many hertz should be the box and im going ported. ?
Last Question is that i have 4 Bose Stock Speakers , i was thinking of buying two Alpine speaker pairs each 100 RMS , will it be enough power to hook the Speakers to the headunit and still get enough sound with that much bass ? Pioneer PH-4900 Headunit .Is this amp good Autotek MM 4000.1D for Running 2 15%26quot; BTL's?what r the 15%26quot; BTL's rated for with 15's you will find that they can handle alot but they don't need that much watts to get that deep clean bass sound we are always lookin for hit me up and i'll try to help if i can't find it none can manger of a radio shack in Fla. so i can find the answers you need!!!, JonIs this amp good Autotek MM 4000.1D for Running 2 15%26quot; BTL's?yea nice find on the amp it would work great but if ur planing on doing comps i would get more than the recomended power for the subs also your box should be around 8ft^3 tuned to bout 40htz if your running the speakers off the headunit its gunna be under powered i would rec a amp for thos to evan if u bridge the headunit it still wont be enoughlaptop peak replacement rodents

Can a broken brake light switch cause a new car battery to go completely dead overnight?
I've been having a problem with my car not starting. I checked the alternator. No problem. I changed to a new battery. Radio, clock, lights were all turned off. But the next day, the battery is completely dead again.
If the brake light switch is broken on %26quot;On%26quot; position, is it possible that this could drain all the power from the new battery? How do I find out if the brake light switch is a problem?
Thank you for your advice. Can a broken brake light switch cause a new car battery to go completely dead overnight?its shorting somewhereCan a broken brake light switch cause a new car battery to go completely dead overnight?if the switch is stuck %26quot;on position%26quot; your brake lights are on all the time

Battery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)?
Car: 96' Isuzu rodeo V6 3.2L engine (automatic transmission)
Problem: It all started with the a/c. When one wanted to turn on the ac no air would come out from the vents.
A day later the check engine and battery light came on the dash. We noticed that the volt reading on the dash was by 8. That being the case, both the alternator and battery were changed. Even with the new alternator and battery in place the volt reading on the dash was barely 10. So far we have taken the alternator to 2 different places and they tell us that its good, but the battery is being drained dead. If the problem is due to burned links how does one go about finding this out?
as for the ac not blowing any air, what could the answer be? ( fan clutch?)
is there a correlation between the ac problem and the battery being drained , or do advance auto part workers not know how to test alternators, and THATS the problem?
sorry for the long post, your responses will be greatly apreciatedBattery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)?I own one of these and had the same problem. Being a mechanic, I had to figure it out myself. The fan does not blow until the alternator is putting out more than battery voltage (charging). I've also had alternator problems requiring three warranty replacement alternators. You probably need to get another new alternator. By the way, with the engine running, you should have 13.4 to 14.4 volts at the battery.Battery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)?Usually a battery drain like that is caused by an internal short in the alternator, it will still charge the vehicle while running but it will also drain the battery when sitting. Does the battery have enough cca for the vehicle, there are several other possiblities with the electrical system on that vehicle, if the blower motor doesn't blow at all check fuses first, and you should check them with a test light, in a worst case senario it could be a body ground problem which will take some testing or a new blower motor.Battery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)? To check the alt still on the car take a metal screwdriver and touch the back side of the alt, if it magnetizes to it then it is still good.
As far as your A/C sounds like a short in the blower motor, and yes that could cause the battery to drain on some occasions. Hope it helpsBattery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)? You need to check your blower motor, it sounds like it just finally died. More than likely the blower motor going out and the other problems listed are coincidence. The problem with your charging system is a tough one without lookin at it personally. I would get a multimeter or voltmeter and check your battery at the terminals while it is running and see if the voltage reading is close to 14.5. Other than that I would check your fusible links, wiring, and make sure all connections are tight. You can get you a repair manual at a auto parts store too help you with this if you want. They have a lot info you can use to help. Good luck.Battery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)?check the blower motor it could be shorted and will drain the battery. the voltmeter is only telling you the battery condition.detach the blower connection and check voltage drain for confirmation before costly removal
In India we will open and detach the +ve terminal cable from the battery if the car switches off youre alternator is blown.make sure its not touching any part of the vehicle.
Am not liable for any damages due to this adviceBattery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)?Sounds like either a belt issue. i.e. No belt. Or Not enough tension on a belt and your pully wheels are just slipping and not catching the belt. NOTE: Make sure you install the alternator totally straight with no angle. If your alternator is just a hair off it doesn't keep the belt flow in line making it slip off the pullies and also wearing out the bearings/brushes in your alternator.
You might want to check some relays also.Battery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)?it sounds to me like the blower motor is defective. but there are other issues too. possiblly the blenddoors are not opening and that could be bad vacuum lines but for sur e you have a draw on the battery somewhere
that is an electrical issue and diagnostics are costly. also you might check the ac switch in the dash
hard to say when you can not see the vehicleBattery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)? It appears you have answered your own question. The AC is the problem. Check it out.Battery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)?I am inclined to think the ac compressor may be going (seizing up) as mentioned by another and that this is causing problem. As it gets up over 2000 rpm's your are then turning things at close to the proper speed. under that and the system is straining to keep going. If your belts dont turn at proper speed you will have, 1) battery drainage ie alternator not charging. 2 No AC ie AC compressor sluggish or seized (causing 1st problem)Battery drains, ac doesn't blow, and alternator is good (supposedly)?unplug air ac from ac check blower with heater. sounds like clutch on ac is getting ready to seize up

I want to get a H O Alternator?
I have a 2001 Chrysler 300m that has a 130amp factory alternator on it. I want to change it because my lights keep dimming every time the bass hits. How big should I go as far as amps? Is there any thing else I should do? Please help!I want to get a H O Alternator?Consider doing the big 3 upgrade before you buy the alternator you should see a significant change. Maybe even look into an audio battery like a KINETIK HC600. What are you running as a system?

Alternator Problem?
Well i reversed my cable connections and now i have an alternator issue i think. how can i check it with out taking it out. i have a 97 ford ranger 4 cylander and i was told that it might just be a fuse problem. i change my fuse link becasue that was fried. there are no fuses in the box that are fried. there are big black square ones thats say for but i dont know if they are bad because i cant see in side. i am also looking for my owners manuel mine was taking, does anyone know where to get a new one quick or free. If it is the alternator i want to change it my self, i did my cars one are they like the same? Need help ThanksAlternator Problem? You can go to an auto parts store and get a Hayes manual or try getting a hold of a Ford dealership ask for the parts department, they should be able to answer your questions. My husband does it all the time if he has a problem that he can't solve. Good Luck
How do I fix my Odometer?
My Odometer, Tripometer, Spedometer, and radio no longer work after I changed my battery and Alternator. I checked my fuses and they are fine. Is there a reset switch? If so where is it and what does it take to reset? Is there someting I forgot to check? How do I fix my Odometer?u blew a fuse did you really check them out look carfully ? Or if all fails take the neg of for about 30 sec. and put back killing the power from the whole engine might bring it back im just thinking but it haqs to be a fuse some where ?How do I fix my Odometer?Depends on how your transmission sends that information to the instrument panel. It sounds like it uses and electric sensor. I would check the fuse panel for a blown fuse. Otherwise you will need to visit a mechanic or transmission shop.desktop issue cute hair
Noisy belt...?
I have just has the fan/alternator belt changed on my car but it keeps making a squeeky noise (it has mainly stopped though).
Any idea's on how to get rid of it? some people say WD-40........Noisy belt...?does it tend to get louder and more persistent when it rains?
i had a belt that was absolutely obnoxious when it got wet, and i ended up putting corn starch on it to dry it out. weird. but it worked.
i have no idea if this would work for you, but if it gets irritating enough, you might try anything.Noisy belt...?Under no circumstances put WD40 on it.
You have either got a belt that is too loose, or there is a problem with one of the bearings being driven by the belt.
I would suggest you take it back to who ever changed it and get them to check it out for youNoisy belt...?Check for tension first, approx 45 degree of twist. if it is set right with the engine running hold a candle to the working edge, regular cheep white candle not lit, the wax will rub onto the belt and stop the noise, repeat when required. sounds odd but it does work.Noisy belt...?Hello, Get a good make furniture polish Like Mr Sheen (if I am allowed to say, I am sure I will get shot if not) Mr Sheen has silicone in it, spray this on your belt, this will stop it, you may need to do it again at some point.
Good luckNoisy belt...?your local auto store has a thing called belt dressing, it softens and smooths the sounds of belts. WD40 is not the answer as it is an oil and oil is bad for belts ! It will deteroritite them! Check your belts and hoses for wear every 3500 miles when you change your oil! please ask any questions. I will answer to the best of my ability (I Do Not Work At An Automivive Store!!!) Any repairs if you aren't happy are best dealt with by them you may well make it worseNoisy belt...?oil itNoisy belt...?sounds like the belt isnt tight enough
id bring it backNoisy belt...?It's either too loose or too tight! Or maybe even the wrong belt has been fitted. When does it squeak, when you rev up (loose and slipping) or all the time (tight or wrong size)
Are you sure its the belt making the noise and not the alternator or water pump bearings?
You dont say model/ year of car !!!!Noisy belt...?I have to admit that I go with the repair or replace crowd. If it is the belt then the use of a lubricant (which is what the WD40 is) might give you a temporary fix but it will not be a solution. First check the wear and tension on the belt . Then work your way through the other 'can be wrongs' until you eliminate the possibles and find the real culprit. Just start with the simple (read easy) and work through the list. But get a manual for the car (check the library if you don't want to buy one yet) even if you are not going to ever take the do-it-yourself route. If you have at least a basic understanding of the vehicle in its' possible problems and repairs it will save you a lot of time, money and frustration when you do need something done.

Alternator problem? Not sure?
My truck stopped running yesterday while coming to an intersection so I can't tell if I lost the ability to steer, I was able to start it again right away.
This morning it turned on and the engine was %26quot;rumbling/shaking/vibrating%26quot;- not sure exactly how to describe it, then it died and it won't start again although it seems to want to turn over. I can open the electric windows.
Oil change 1900 miles ago, alternator replaced 4-5 months ago (although I know they can go %26quot;bad%26quot;), replaced two of the tensioners (not the AC tensioner) because the belt was %26quot;screaming%26quot;, belt is making noise again, new battery, 1/2 tank of gas.Alternator problem? Not sure?I would need more info-esp on the%26quot;seems to want to turn over%26quot; part.Make and model could help me narrow down to common%26quot;model specific%26quot; problems. How many belts??-3 tensioners??. Not sure?really should replace belt tensioner when you replace belt but wouldnt maybe motor run bad that woul dbe fuel or spark problem if it was alternator bad wouldnt start many times and couldnt drive it much more than a hour or it would die and not start again more first id say add a fuel treatment check fuel filter then replace spark plugs then plug wiresAlternator problem? Not sure?1 check battery and connections...should be 12.7 V at restAlternator problem? Not sure?check your fuel pump relay, see if it went bad.Alternator problem? Not sure?Best way to check voltage output of an alternator is with an inexpensive volt meter. Clamp clamp the leads to the battery and set the meter @ 20 volts with the motor running. You should see between 13.5 - 14.0 volts on the meter. If the output voltage isn't within this bracket the alternator is a scrapper once again.
Wish you'd have included the year make and model of the truck. If the starter seems slow turning the motor over it sounds like a low voltage / amperage situation. A cheap way to test the battery is to turn on the headlights to high beam with you watching the lights while someone starts the truck. If they grow dim or go out your battery is low on voltage. You can test battery voltage with a volt meter also. After the battery has been sitting without being charged for at least 12 hours, hook the leads to the battery and set the center nob to 20 volts. You should see 12.85 volts on a fully charged battery. If it's under 12 volts you're going to have trouble starting a car or truck.

Would you know how much it would cost....?
to have the alternator belt changed in a 1993 Nissan Maxima?Would you know how much it would cost....?If the alternator is not damaged, the belt should not run you more then 50.00 installed. the cost may also depend on how accessible the belt is. i can change small things like a radiator or alternator, is this something i should attempt? How difficult is it to change the water pump on a 1985 chevy s10 blazer 2.8 liter? This is about as close as you will come to a 10 minute job. Does it really need all of that? The original battery on that car should still have plenty of life left in it. Same with everything else but the brakes and oil change. A tune-up, oil change, and brake job should be enough. How much does a dodge changer 08 battery cost?Well, a rough estimate would be $100 for a battery, $400 for tires, $250 for a starter, $400 for an alternator, $200 for a brake job and about $20 for the oil change. This is a grand total of $1370. Give or take $200, so $1170 to $1570.How much does a dodge changer 08 battery cost?these are just estimates it all depends on the brand you buy.

OK i just asked a question about getting an alternator for my car but i guess i didnt have enough details because the answers varied greatly.
I have a '99 Mercury Cougar, its the alternator because i changed the batteries and everything( i also had pros look at it) My dad said he knows people that said they could do it fo $35 or so, but the thing is, he lives in another state and i need to have the car fixed by monday. I dont think im gonna go to a junkyard but it dont think it neccesarily has to be a new one.How much would it cost to buy an alternator? Many options available for that vehicle based on engine and chassis number.
Prices range from $85 to $175 for a remanufactured unit.

I found a pretty good deal on a?
1998 Land Rover Discovery. I don't know much about the internals on a motor. I can change plugs, wires, alternators, starters, and other simple stuff like that. How hard are they to work on, and how expensive are the parts for them. Also it has a 4.0 V8 in it, which is a V6 in jeeps, and my dad's 4.3 is a V6.....so what kind of gas mileage does it get?
I'd like to know if I'm gonna be able to afford to work on it before we decide to purchase it.I found a pretty good deal on a?check this out

What do you think is up with the power steering?
before, the power steering kept slipping and making that screeching sound so we got the belt changed and it fixed it. but now...a few months after we changed the belt, the same problem is happening, but not nearly as much. keep in mind it happens way more often in cold weather. also when you hear the screeches, the headlights dim, which mean the alternator is slipping right? and if you turn the wheel all the way, sometimes the battery charge indicator light up.
what do you think is wrong? not enough power steering fluid? or does the belt need to be adjusted? what is it?
if it does need to be readjusted, how would i do that? do you know if it has a tensioner or if i'd have to adjust the position of the alternator to change the tension?

thanksWhat do you think is up with the power steering?new belts will stretch so you probably need to tighten the belt. Most of the time you need to loosen the alternator Use a pry bar to pull it tight and re tighten the bolts. the alternator is on a slide mount so this can be done What do you think is up with the power steering?sounds like the blt is slipping, try replacing the belt and if that dont work make sure you have enough tension on the belt itself. What do you think is up with the power steering?Usually when you hear that squealing, you need more fluid in your powersteering reservoir.
As far as the lights going out/blinking, there must be a short in the wiring, or possible a problem with the ignition switch.
It very well could be that you need a new power steering pump. Here is the web site for a very affordable place to get auto parts.

What do you think is up with the power steering?if it is a single serpentine belt then the spring in the tensioner is probably bad, or it's sticking....
the spring in the tensioner is self adjusting...
the tensioner is the pulley at the top that is not connected to anything....just a pulley on a bracket....What do you think is up with the power steering?the belt tensioner should be replaced
hope that helps

Humming noise when motor idling,,,?
Does Mazda use universal or Original parts when replacing? I was told mechanics uses rebuilt parts. At first, the alternator was changed, This makes the second one they replace... How can someone know tell if that was changed to the original or universal? They also changed my idle pulley and power steering pump too. How can (alternator) go wrong again? Could it be rebuilt part or universal ? I had a humming noise and whistle sound when idling and acceleration . How hard is it to replace a timing belt on a 2000 Honda Civic?
I have not done any real work on cars for a number of years. The occational alternator and oil changes. I would like to know if I could pull off doing this timing belt thing on my own. Is there that much to it? Does it take any wierd tools? Or would it be easier to pay someone to do it. I have all the basic tools for regular maintenace. Does the car need to be re-timed when I am done? How hard is it to replace a timing belt on a 2000 Honda Civic?Well it is a time consuming job, but not terribly difficult. As the engine is transverse mounted there is very little clearance in which to work and you have to be a little bit of a contortionist and have a reasoable number of adapters and extensions to get into the tight places. There may additionally be a couple of TORX fittings, though I cannot recall if Honda uses those in place of Allen fittings where flush mounted hands are required for clearance.
Also, as I recall, Honda recommends changing the water pump when you change the belt, as you have done most of the work to get access to it when you do a belt change and it would be a shame to have done all of that only to have to be back in there again should the water pump fail.
As to changing the belt, there are a couple of covers to remove and often some components are in the way. It varies from car to car, but it is not unusual to have to remove things like air filter housings, radiator reservoirs, windshield wiper tanks, and sometimes even starter motors and alternators. It just depends upon what you find in the way.
Any good Chilton's or Haynes manual will detail the procedure for changing the belt itself, and how to get the timing right when you do.
It is terribly important, of course, that the cam shaft and crank shaft pulleys remain in precisely the same relationship to one another that they are now in. If one rotates even a tooth out of the current relationship they car will run very poorly, if at all. Fortunately, Hondas are what are called %26quot;non-interference%26quot; engines, which means that even with a valve fully extended it can never get low enough to strike a piston when it is at the top of its range. Accordingly, if you get it wrong the worst that happens is that your car either will not run, or will run badly, but no internal damage to the valves or pistons will result. and then you will have to go back and recheck your timing marks.
On most cars you will have to remove the old belt before you can put the new one on, and so you will have to refer to the manual for aligning the timing marks. However, sometimes there is just enough room on the cam and crank pulleys to push the belt to the innner edge and slip on the edge of the new belt on the outer. If so, then timing is assured and one just takes a sharp blade, cuts off the old belt to get it out of the way, and then slides the new belt on the remainder of the way.
Now one other important thing to do is, after the new belt is in place, but before you have put everything else back together, you put a large wrench or socket and rachet on the crank shaft bolt and turn the engine over a few times, just to make sure it turns smoothly to assure that you have assembled it properly. Turning it over slowly will apply far less stress to the system if something is awry than would a starter motor.
Also, do not buy a cheap belt. Get the belt from the dealer. You may pay $15 or $20 more for it, but in that the far greater investment here is your time, as this can take a shade-tree mechanic several hours, it is not worth scrimping on a belt that may fail prematurely. How hard is it to replace a timing belt on a 2000 Honda Civic? If you have to ask-

When ever I buy a car (used), that's one of the FIRST things I buy for it.How hard is it to replace a timing belt on a 2000 Honda Civic? If your car is at the point where you need the timing belt changed, I would suggest bringing it in for service regardless of whether you can do it yourself or not. Events such as this should provide you the excise to get a professional once-over to see if there is anything else near failure as well that you cannot visually inspect by lifting the hood.
This idea may be a bit more expensive then you want, but investing a little money in a 7 year old Honda is an excellent investment as this car could easily run for 15 years if well maintained. How hard is it to replace a timing belt on a 2000 Honda Civic?its not too hard. you'll find more frustration in the fact that you have to take a bunch of stuff off the car to be able to get at the belt. they really cram that engine in there. How hard is it to replace a timing belt on a 2000 Honda Civic?Changing a timing belt is not excessively difficult. Typcially its getting to it that's the most difficult. Especially how they pack the engines into the vehicles these days.
The other important thing is making sure everything is properly re-assembled before starting the engine. This especially means making sure the timing is correct before re-assembling everything. If the timing is off by even one tooth, you could have pistons hitting valves and requiring major engine repair.
To answer all your little questions:
Typically a timing belt replacement does not need any %26quot;weird%26quot; tools. You'll need a good pry bar and a breaker bar to remove the bolt typically attached to the harmonic balancer (the hardest part to remove). If you have an air gun, it would probably be the best.
It would definitely be easier to pay someone to do it, but it's not an impossible job for someone who is mechanically inclined and if it's your first time, give yourself at least the weekend to get the job done. How hard is it to replace a timing belt on a 2000 Honda Civic? If you know how to follow instructions you can do anything, don't be scare to do anything if you know you can do it. To change a timing belt is easy. Go to Auto Zone and buy the Book of the year and model of your car. Them read it very carefully. Honda have a tensioner pulley that lose the belt. You maybe need help of someone to hold the tensioner when they pull it when you change the belt. If the socket handle is short, look for a long iron tube put it in the handle to help you to pulled. is easier that way. I am a woman and I did change the water pump of my Honda Accord of 2004. including put new belt. I did follow the book instructions and it work. Honda wanted $878.00 to do it for me. Hell no!!! I said.
I went to Auto Zone and to do it my self it cost me just $85.95. Whoa!!! True.
Also don't be shy of asking for help to people that work in garages, ask them where is located the tensioner. if you don't know where. and ask them to show you. some people are nice and can tell you how.
Don't be afraid but always take pictures before you start your job so you can remember how to put it back if you don't know how. Follow book instructions as well.
Good luck!!!

How can i fix or find a short in the electrical system?need info on how to troubleshoot an electrical problem ?
already changed battery and alternator. even when turned off it draws power.dies while runningHow can i fix or find a short in the electrical system?need info on how to troubleshoot an electrical problem ?If you don't have appropriate tools, including a good meter, you're best off taking it in to a shop.
If a car dies while running due to no voltage the charging system isn't doing what it should. Off hand I would suspect the new alternator; either if was defective or damaged on installation. Another possibility is that you have an external voltage regulator that is bad and not allowing the alternator to do it's job.
A good meter is best but even a $10.00 voltmeter from Radio Shack or an autoparts store will tell you if the alternator is putting +/- 14.6 Volts on the battery. If it isn't, ask an auto parts store if your vehicle uses an external voltage regulator; if it does, replace it.How can i fix or find a short in the electrical system?need info on how to troubleshoot an electrical problem ?Take the vehicle to an auto electrical shop.

I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?
I just had the serpentine and the alternator drive belts changed, but is there a separate timing belt on my van? If so, how expensive if it to get it changed? I was quoted $450 or so, so they must have to take a lot of the engine apart.I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?Chrysler's service manuals recommend 90,000 miles at the earliest. I would say 75K to 80K is appropriate.
Basically, we have to remove the belts, pulleys, motor mount, lay the PS Pump and AC Compressor aside and remove the bracket and remove the front covers. It is also a good idea to inspect or replace the water pump while in there.
$450 seems to be about average.
I'm assuming you have the 3.0L since you mention timing belt (3.3L and 3.8L have a timing chain, not a belt) and they are prone to oil leaks at the cam seals. It is a good time to do them as well, if they are leaking.I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?Look in your owners manual if you have one.
Mot vehicles recommend to replace it at every 75k to 100k miles, or 10 years, whichever is first. Chrysler manuals usually recommend having it done at 90k miles, with no mention of age. However, I would change it if it gets to 10 years old and has not reached the recommended miles yet just for safety sake.
50,000 miles is too early in most instances to replace the timing belt. At that rate, you'd have replaced it twice in the recommended replacement interval. I replaced mine at 100k miles (and about 6 years old) and it still looked great, which is how you want it, you don't want it all worn out and cracked when it's replaced.
$450 is about right for a timing belt on a voyager, only reason it should go higher is if they find something else needs to be replaced while they're in there. In that case, they should always ask before adding anything to the repair order.I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?should be replaced every 50,000 but most people go to 75;000
450 is about right they have to tear down the front of the engineI have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?About 75,000 miles is good on those engines. However, if your at that mileage, spend a little extra, and replace the water pump, and timing belt tensioner at the same time. The timing belt drives the water pump, and if you've got that sort of mileage on the van, the pump is reaching the end of it's service life. Much better to take care of it, since you'll be right there anyway. It will cost you less in the long run.I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. How often does the timing belt need to be changed?the timing belt needs to be replaced 75,000.quotes vary from 450.00 to as much 8 or 9.00 make the tech.gauranity price and labor. good luck
