Regarding Ford Escort's coolant level sensor replacement...?

I have a 1995 Ford Escort LX Sport that runs great (though I keep having to replace the exhaust system), but needs to have the the coolant level sensor replaced. Anyone know how easy it is to replace this myself? I am not a beginner when it comes to car repair (have done my own brakes, oil changes, belts, alternators, starters, selenoids, tune-ups, etc), but have never touched any sensors before, I would like to know what I am getting into before I decide to track down the elusive part and skip the ASE Certified mechanic. Thanks!!

dont bother to fix itRegarding Ford Escort's coolant level sensor replacement...?the coolant level sensor is part of the cap for the coolant reservoir. very basic, disconnect the electrical connector on top of the reservoir cap, pop the cap up and pull the whole thing out of the reservoir, pop the new one in, plug it in and verify you have ample coolant in the reservoir and the light is out.

I have a 1997 Nissan Altima. The battery %26amp; alternator were changed recently. Battery has tested good. I also had a recent tuneup. My car will sometimes die while idling. When the car does die, the following lights turn on the dashboard: E-brake, oil light, %26amp; battery. I suspect the fuel pump is going bad because it will sometimes choke while accelerating. I have to rev the engine while in Neutral to keep the car from dying. What do you think? Also, how much should a repair be?What is wrong with my car? Sounds like carbon build-up in some of your emission control sensors. That is a lot more common these days with ethanol enriched fuel. If you can, find a gas station that has no ethanol in it's gas. That should help some. Also, go to one of the chain auto parts stores and ask for %26quot;Sea-Foam%26quot; fuel additive. It works really good at cleaning your fuel system and displacing water in your fuel. I would try that first before running up a big mechanics bill. Good luck.What is wrong with my car? What is an outer tie-rod? How urgent is fixing it if it's loose?

I went to Firestone to get an alignment done because my 94 ford escort pulls really hard to the right. They said that my left front outer tie-rod was loose and that that was the problem and doing an alignment wouldn't help. They said they would have to replace it, why does it need replaced if it is just loose? Can they not be tightened back up? Going to cost $130. If I wait until I'm better off money-wise is it going to worsen the problem? I have a friend whose uncle is a mechanic who has changed my alternator and done tune ups for me before, do you think this is something that can be done without one of the machine that lifts your cars? A tie rod is what steers the tires. If it lose he didn't mean that the nut is lose (as the nut has a carter pin through it ) he means that its shot and wore out.

As for urgent .... if it breaks you won't be going anywhere and it may cause you to crash if your driving it.. as when it brakes that one tire will turn all the way out or in and you won't have any control over the car.

How urgent is fixing it if it's loose?this is something that can be aken care of without lifting the vehicle. the tie rods are very important. they are what in a sense %26quot; tie your hub assembly into your vehicle.%26quot; in the unfortunate case that it was to brea it would kick your %26quot;tire%26quot; in a direction that you really dont want it to go. if your going to replace it you need to treat it like a headlight or brake pads or wheel bearings and just do them al at the same time. keeps it simple. if your friends uncle is a mechanic he should be able to do this for you pretty easily. if he is willing. there are some little quirks however about tie rods that can really stress you out. you need to look up your vehicles specs on the computer and find out what you need. or give your local dealership a call, have the last eight digits of your vin number handy. they will need it. have them tell you the parts involved in your tie rods. then just call your local auto parts store with the information and you will more than likely save more.... HOWEVER!!!! you need to know that tie rods dont just go out. did you hit someting hard? a curb or something? that would do it. anyhow. if you have been driving around like this for a while it may not hurt to continue untill you can get the money saved. but you definitely want to put this in the top of your list to get done. it could be a dangeerous thing if they brokeWhat is an outer tie-rod? How much will a complete tune up cost on an 1993 model just purchased?

I'm considering buying a 1993 mitsubishi eclipse with around 130,000 miles. He has apparently recently changed the alternator belt, the ac belt, radiator and put in a new battery. I want to keep this car running for a decent amount of time, hopefully past 200,000. If i want to keep it in shape exactly what other parts should i replace and how much will each part cost to install (I will not be preforming any repairs or replacements). How often should i replace these as well?

I have a 96 toyota corolla. it's not a nice car, so i don't want to take it to a mechanic and pay to get it fixed. the problem is, the battery won't stay charged for more than 10 hours. just got a new battery, it went dead within 24 hours. i am going to try and troubleshoot myself with a multimeter on the fuses. my question is, what do I do once I find the battery leak? I don't see how finding the fuse leak will give enough info to troubleshoot the battery prob further.

If there is a significant draw on the battery, the test light will light bright. (Be sure everything is turned off and all of the doors are closed.)

Now simply remove the fuses one at a time and recheck the test light in the same manner - when you remove a fuse and the light goes out, you have pinpointed the faulty circuit. If none of the fuses shuts the light off, remove the alternator positive feed and recheck the light.



Added: Once you find the faulty circuit, for instance, the interior light fuse - I would start by removing all of the courtesy bulbs. But, when you changed the alternator belt, did you get it tight enough?

Also, the problems you are describing could be consistent with a shot alternator. Is it dying after 10 hours of running or after 10 hours?

Could also be an electrical leak in your car draining the battery while it's off. Especially on a car that age.

Assuming you're right, and the battery is losing charge, then just replace the battery. The way to see if that's the case simply is just to get the car running and make sure the battery is charged up all the way. Then shut off the car and take the battery out. Set the battery on the counter. if the alt is working it will measure 14.5 volts or above.

if it reads 12.5 or 13 volts , the alt is not charging.



A working alt will charge a new batt in about 10 minuets.Anyone with knowledge on car batteries, please respond..?It's the alternator. Do a voltage test when running and if its not around 13.5-14.5 volts, then its a bad alternator.

I changed the alternator and of course disconnected the battery. I dont have a keyless entry remote so I cant start the vehichle!!!!!!! This happened once before and I was able to get ahold of the guy I got it from and he gave me a sequence from the passenger door using the key to lock and unlock the door a certain number of times and it worked to bypass the alarm, my problem is that I dont remember the sequence and if the vehicle needs to be locked or unlocked when I start the said sequence!!!
