On my 95 Buick Regal 3.8L, it takes about 3 minutes because the alternator is right on top and you only have to remove 2 bolts. Now on a 95 Lumina with a 3.4L Twin Cam, it can take several hours because the alternator is mounted on the back side of the engine and down below the heads. That one you have to partially drop the engine cradle and remove the passenger side drive shaft. On a small car with a small engine, a reasonably inclined person should be able to change an alternator in less than an hour from start to finish.How long to change an alternator?It REALLY depends on the car...
