How long to change an alternator?

Hey

How long do thnk it wd take to change an alternator in a small car? anyone know? How long to change an alternator?it depends on the car and engine. On my 95 Buick Regal 3.8L, it takes about 3 minutes because the alternator is right on top and you only have to remove 2 bolts. Now on a 95 Lumina with a 3.4L Twin Cam, it can take several hours because the alternator is mounted on the back side of the engine and down below the heads. That one you have to partially drop the engine cradle and remove the passenger side drive shaft. On a small car with a small engine, a reasonably inclined person should be able to change an alternator in less than an hour from start to finish. How long to change an alternator? It REALLY depends on the car...

And by that, I mean it could be anything from a 20 minute job to something that takes half the day or more.

It all depends on where the alternator is located and how hard it is to get to.How long to change an alternator?depends on the make of the car...imports can be a real pain in the azz!How long to change an alternator?A bit more than an hour considering jacking, removing the mud guard behind the wheel. If you have a box or something to rest the alternator on after you remove the bolts it makes it easier to remove the rear connections. Have your negative ground connection off of your battery. How long to change an alternator? What color is animal?....Get the point?....lift the hood and see whats involved...Do you have the proper tools and the basic knowledge....remember, disconnect the battery terminals as the first step...make sure you have a diagram of the serpentine belt routing if that applies...Its often the little things that make a job like this tough...are you sure you need an alternator?...Are you just guessing? How long to change an alternator? What kind of car? A V-6 Volkswagen takes 8 hours. Pull the entire nose, to the serpentine belts! An older Accord says to pull the axle. A Cavalier takes a half hour. My wife's Camry, about the same. Her turbo Eclipse, what a #$%^%26amp;! !How long to change an alternator?I had a 1985 Honda Accord that required the front axle to be disconnected at the steering knuckle to access the alternator.

But because my toolset was a better fit with the task of removing the braking system's master cylinder (the axle requires a BF wrench which I didn't have), that's how I acessed it.

All the while I did that repair, I wished that I could find the engineer(s) who put the alternator there and slap the beejeezuz out of them. How long to change an alternator? My man says approximately 30. . .There us only 2 or 3 bolts holding it on...Loosen bolts and remove the belt and the wires, you have it off...Get another alternator and reverse what you did before and you will have it back on, usually in less than 30 minutes and you will be on the road again. . . .
